Ekaterina Lisina is one of very few people with both an Olympic medal and a modeling career. This page traces how she moved from basketball to fashion, what she has said about shopping for clothes and shoes, and six posts from her Instagram.

Ekaterina Lisina, born October 15, 1987 in Penza, Russia, won Olympic bronze in women's basketball at Beijing 2008 and later became a professional model. Guinness World Records recognized her as the tallest professional model in its 2018 edition.

Career Milestones

  1. 2006 to 2014. Plays professional basketball, including for CSKA Moscow, Spartak Moscow Region and Dynamo Kursk, per Wikipedia.
  2. August 2008. Wins bronze with Russia at the Beijing Olympics.
  3. About 2016. Gives up basketball to model. Guinness said in September 2017 that she had been modeling professionally for over a year.
  4. September 2017. Visits the Guinness World Records London office as two of her records are announced for the 2018 edition.
  5. 2019 and 2022. Appears in music videos for Louis Prince ("Ode") and Oliver Tree ("Cowboys Don't Cry").
  6. March 2021. Kotaku covers her cosplay of Lady Dimitrescu from Resident Evil Village.

A Lifelong Wish to Model

Guinness reported that she always wanted to be a model and stepped away from the sport to pursue it. She told the organization she hoped her records would make her "an inspiration to girls who are not very confident," and that she was teased at school, although she felt at ease at home in a family of tall people.

The Shopping Problem She Describes

In the same 2017 interview, she said trousers that fit are hard to find and that finding feminine shoes is tricky. It is a practical issue many very tall women share, and it shapes how a model in her position dresses off the job: tailored or made-to-measure pieces, and footwear chosen as much for availability as for trend.

Guinness also quoted her joking that the records come with benefits: "I can walk much faster than other people."

Music Videos and Costume Work

Her screen credits outside sport are music videos, most widely seen in Oliver Tree's "Cowboys Don't Cry" in 2022. Her Lady Dimitrescu cosplay, which Kotaku covered in March 2021 according to Wikipedia, added costume work to that list: dressing as a video game character rather than for a client brief.
