Becoming Supergirl

She now plays Supergirl in the DC Universe. After a brief appearance in Superman (2025), she led the film Supergirl in 2026, which Rotten Tomatoes described as the second instalment of the new DC Universe.

Supergirl reached cinemas on 26 June 2026. Craig Gillespie, whose earlier films include I, Tonya and Cruella, directed from a script by Ana Nogueira that draws on the 2021 comic Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow, and Jason Momoa joined the cast as Lobo.

In the story, Kara agrees to help a 13 year old girl named Ruthye, played by Eve Ridley, track down the villain Krem, played by Matthias Schoenaerts. The Hollywood Reporter explains that Krem shoots Kara’s dog, Krypto, with a lethal tranquilliser that will kill him in three days, which gives her a deadline of her own.

Flashbacks show Kara’s final months on Argo City, a floating colony from the doomed planet Krypton, where she argues with her parents, played by David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham, over their decision to send her to Earth.

Reviews of the film were mixed. The Hollywood Reporter was cool on the story but praised her tough, punky take on Kara Zor-El, and the Rotten Tomatoes roundup of first reviews singled out her performance as the film’s standout.

The Hollywood Reporter’s review also felt her few scenes with David Corenswet’s Superman set up a big brother and little sister dynamic with real potential. Supergirl followed Superman, which The Hollywood Reporter says grossed $619 million worldwide and launched the new DC Studios era under James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Upright and Early Recognition

She starred as Meg alongside Tim Minchin in the Foxtel comedy drama Upright from 2019. The role earned her a nomination for Best Comedy Performer at the 10th AACTA Awards in 2020.

The National Theatre’s casting announcement for The Crucible also notes that she won the Casting Guild of Australia’s Rising Star Award in 2018 for Upright.

Rhaenyra Targaryen

She gained worldwide attention as Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first season of the HBO series House of the Dragon in 2022, playing the young version of the character alongside Matt Smith, Paddy Considine and Olivia Cooke.

The performance earned her a Critics’ Choice nomination for best supporting actress in a drama series. Playbill described her Rhaenyra as young and rebellious, the heir at the centre of the Game of Thrones prequel’s first season.

Abigail in The Crucible

In 2023 she made her West End debut as Abigail Williams in the National Theatre’s production of The Crucible. Lyndsey Turner’s staging, with a set by Es Devlin, played at the Gielgud Theatre from 7 June to 2 September.

Arthur Miller’s play is set during the Salem witch trials of 1692, and Abigail is the young woman whose accusations push the village into fear. Turner’s production had already been nominated for the Olivier Award for Best Revival after its first run at the National Theatre, and the West End opening night was 15 June.

When the casting was announced, she called working on such an iconic play a dream come true.

Sirens on Netflix

In 2025 she joined the Netflix series Sirens as Simone DeWitt, the personal assistant to Julianne Moore’s character, Michaela Kell. Meghann Fahy played Devon, her protective older sister.

Created by Molly Smith Metzler and based on her play Elemeno Pea, the limited series takes place over one Labor Day weekend at a lavish island estate. Kevin Bacon plays Michaela’s husband, Peter, and Margot Robbie’s company LuckyChap was among the producers.

Netflix describes Simone as the sharp and charming younger sister who seems to have hit the jackpot by working for a billionaire. Much of the story follows Devon’s attempt to pull her away from that world.

Bill Camp plays the sisters’ father, Bruce, a Navy veteran. Glenn Howerton plays Ethan Corbin III, a playboy neighbour and friend of the Kells, and Felix Solis plays Jose, who poses as a gardener but actually runs security at the estate.

The DeWitt sisters are written as two women from Buffalo. The Kell estate, Cliff House, was filmed at Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve on Long Island, with Lloyd Harbor standing in for the nearby beach town and interiors built on a sound stage at Steiner Studios in Brooklyn.
