Early in a time when it was still unheard of for an actress to break away from typical roles, Kelly Hu made her way into one of the few leading Asian American actresses who could equally headline action and mainstream roles. She became Miss Teen USA in 1985 and wasted no time entering the industry.
From The Scorpion King to X2: X-Men United, Kelly has demonstrated, through her action-packed, multi-million-dollar films, that she's equally adept at dramas and voice performances.
Her use of martial arts became her trademarks as well as her fierce presence on screen.
Besides being in public view, Kelly is actively involved in charitable work and advocacy through which she lends her voice for Asian-American representation and environmental issues. She is both a star and a role model because she can balance the glitz of Hollywood with her activism, all with a heart.
