Her breakout came in 2020 with Control Z, a Mexican Netflix series about a hacker who exposes students’ secrets. She played María Alexander in the series, which ran from 2020 to 2022.
Film work followed quickly. Her first film was the 2022 comedy ¡Qué despadre!, and in April 2023 it won her the Diosa de Plata for best new actress, an award voted by Mexican film journalists. She followed it with Nada que ver in 2023 and the romantic comedy El roomie in 2024, where she plays a young writer named Vivi.
Sofia first appeared in season three of Outer Banks in 2023 as a country club worker who catches Rafe’s eye at a party. By season four in 2024 she had become a regular, and Netflix’s Tudum listed her among the returning series regulars for the fifth and final season, which arrived on 20 August 2026.
Season four gave Sofia her biggest storyline. As Collider recapped, she urged Rafe to invest in a deal with Hollis while secretly working with Hollis on what turned out to be a con, which left her caught between the scheme and her feelings for him. Palomo told the outlet she was terrified of spoiling anything but promised a thrilling arc with plenty of turns.
In a November 2024 interview with Collider she said she had actually auditioned for a different Outer Banks role back in 2018 and had no idea Sofia would grow into such a large part. She said she and Drew Starkey, who plays Rafe, broke down their scenes together and built a backstory for the couple to fill the gap between seasons. She described Sofia as someone who sees past the face Rafe puts on and wants to bring out the best in him, and joked that she would love to sit her character down for a serious talk.
Her first leading film role came in Un actor malo, released in English as Bad Actor. Written and directed by Jorge Cuchí, it follows an actress who accuses her costar of assault during a shoot, and the chaos that follows on set and in public. The film premiered at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in November 2023 and opened in Mexican cinemas on 4 April 2024.
The role brought her the biggest awards of her career so far. She won best actress at the Canacine Awards in 2024 and shared the Diosa de Plata for best actress in 2025, and she was nominated for best actress at the 67th Ariel Awards, Mexico’s leading national film prize.
In 2023 she also took the lead in Journey to Bethlehem, a Christmas musical released by Sony Pictures. She played Mary opposite Milo Manheim as Joseph, with Antonio Banderas as King Herod. The Guardian’s reviewer felt Banderas stole the show, but the film gave her a lead role in an English language studio release, and she was nominated for best actress at the Movieguide Awards.

Two posts that sat on the earlier version of this page are no longer available on Instagram and have been removed.
She also sings. Wikipedia describes her as an actress and singer, and music runs in the family, since her mother, Carina Ricco, is a singer as well as an actress. In a February 2025 interview with Caras she said she had been writing songs for years and was working toward releasing her own music.
